Finding Peace in Growth: A real-talk reflection from the mat (and the laundry pile)

Let’s talk about growth. Not the Instagram-worthy, overnight transformation kind. I mean the kind that’s messy, quiet, sometimes boring—and often doesn’t look like much on the outside. You know, like when your “big personal breakthrough” is that you didn’t lose it when someone left their cereal bowl next to the sink (not in it… but hey, progress).

This month at Living Lotus Online, we’re exploring the theme Finding Peace in Growth. Because growth doesn’t always come with fireworks or a dramatic soundtrack. Sometimes, it looks like doing a five-minute breathing practice instead of scrolling. Or choosing rest when your brain says, “Do more.”

Santosha: The Radical Act of Contentment

In yogic philosophy, there’s this concept called Santosha. It means contentment—not the “everything’s perfect and I’m floating on a cloud” kind, but the grounded, honest, “this is where I’m at, and that’s okay” kind. It’s about meeting yourself right where you are, even if that place is a bit tired, unsure, or still figuring things out.

Santosha is not giving up on growth—it’s giving up on forcing it. It’s trusting that change is happening, even if it’s not loud. It’s allowing space for the pause, the breath, and the tiny choices that stack up over time.

A Simple Practice: The “Stillness Check-In”

Here’s a little something you can try anytime you need to remember that growth doesn’t have to be big to be real:

Stillness Check-In Practice (5 Minutes)

1. Sit comfortably—chair, floor, bed, wherever.

2. Close your eyes or soften your gaze.

3. Take a few slow breaths.

4. Ask yourself: What am I holding right now—physically, mentally, emotionally?

5. On each exhale, invite a softening—maybe your shoulders drop, or your jaw unclenches.

6. That’s it. Just be there. No need to fix, achieve, or do. Just notice.

Even a few minutes of this can help you come back to yourself, to your breath, and to that quiet space where the real stuff—the stuff that matters—grows.

This Month at Living Lotus

Throughout May, we’re sharing classes and practices that support this quieter kind of growth—including the brand-new Pilates series “Strength in Layers“, which builds stability and flow one thoughtful layer at a time (no crash courses here, just steady progress).

And if you haven’t already, make sure to join our newsletter — we give away a free class every month to help you find balance, release tension, and reconnect with yourself.

So here’s your permission slip: take a breath. Take a pause. Celebrate the growth you don’t have to hustle for. You’re doing better than you think.

See you on the mat (or the couch, or the kitchen floor—wherever your practice happens today).
